Artist Statement
The emotion in my work comes from the bottled up anger and anxiety from everyday life. The frustrations from feeling like I don’t fit in with the people around me. On some pieces there are deep slashes and at the end of these slashes it’s curled. These marks also have rough edges. This stroke was done very quickly and depending on how deep it is varied amounts of pressure.
My work also reflects that things can’t be perfect or that things shouldn’t be perfect. In my work this is shown through my textures. Some of the needle tool marks are made again but not erased if it wasn’t put in the right place at first. To me this could reflect on be careful of what you say because once it’s out there, it’s out there. There is no taking it back. Some needle tool marks are made then erased on purpose so there is a depth.
